Dark Feature
If you've heard of WhatsApp, you've heard of it. Even though the messaging app has over 2 billion monthly users, the majority of the United States is not using it. WhatsApp, on the other hand, is one of the most widely used forms of communication in the rest of the world, with people checking their texts, sending stickers, and conversing in group chats. If that's the case, you'll want to make the most of your time with the app, and we've got some pointers to help you do so.
The majority of apps have gone dark, and WhatsApp is no exception. If you have iOS 13 or higher installed on your device, or Android 10 or higher on your phone, the feature will be turned on automatically if your system settings are set to dark mode. If your device is running Android 9 or earlier, go to Settings > Chats > Theme and choose Dark.
Location Share
If you don't mind being caught lying about being five minutes away, WhatsApp's Live Location feature might be worth a shot. Open a chat, click the plus sign, and select Location, where you'll see a Share Live Location option. It's a useful way to locate someone in a crowd or estimate how long you'll have to wait for your friend.
Pinned Message
You can pin a chat to the top of your messages list if you have a special someone on WhatsApp with whom you chat the most. Navigate to the Chats tab and select the chat you want to prioritize. Swipe right to select Pin on iOS, and tap and hold the chat to select Pin Chat on Android.
Privacy Policy
Do you want to be friendly on WhatsApp but not give too much away? Then go to Settings > Account > Privacy to safeguard your privacy. You can control who can see your profile photo, status, and when you were last active. You can also disable read receipts, but then you won't be able to see other people's read receipts.
Back It Up
To save chats, go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Back Up Now, whether you're sentimental or stockpiling blackmail material.
Message Star
Do you have a message you'd like to keep? Make it a star so it's easy to find. The Star icon will appear if you tap and hold the message. Do the same to unstar it. By going to Settings > Starred Messages, you can now see the message.
Protect
Go to Settings > Privacy and turn on Screen Lock to protect your WhatsApp conversations from prying eyes. Any biometric lock on your phone will be enabled.
Take Your Friends With You
WhatsApp is more than simply a messaging app for your phone. You may also converse while using your computer. Go to web.whatsapp.com on your PC. Go to Settings > WhatsApp Web on your phone and use your phone to scan the QR code on your computer screen. There are also desktop programs for Windows and Mac.
Make Group
If you have a group of friends or family members who are always in touch, you should create a group chat. Select New Group from the Chats menu. Give the group a name, and if you wish, a picture to go with it. Next, pick the Plus icon to add participants from a list, or type in each name individually. When you're finished, click Create.
Seen And Heard
WhatsApp features video calling capabilities for up to eight people. Go to Chats, tap the person or group you'd want to contact, and then hit the phone symbol at the top of the screen to start a video call. After that, hit Video call. Voice and video conversations have just been made available on the desktop as well.
Multiple Message
Use the broadcast list tool to send a message to numerous individuals without their realizing they're in a group chat. You may only use this with those who have your contact information in their address book. To broadcast, navigate to Chats > Broadcast Lists and choose an existing list or create a new one by selecting New List and entering contact names. Only you will receive replies from recipients, not the rest of the list.
Share Notes
You may transmit documents to contacts using WhatsApp. Tap the (+) symbol next to the text field (iOS) or the paperclip icon at the top of the screen (Android) to send the message. Choose a document from iCloud Drive or select Further for more possibilities, such as Google Drive, on iOS (above). Select the document you wish to transmit on Android and press Send in the window.
Juice Up Your Photos and Chats
With editing tools that display instantly after taking a new photo or video, or importing one saved on the phone, you may add text and doodles to photographs. Check out the iPhone and Android instructions. WhatsApp also allows you to activate the front-facing camera's flash, ensuring that any selfies you send are well-lit.
What's a messaging app without GIFs, after all? On iOS, press the (+) button > Photos & Video Library > GIF button on the bottom left to add them to your conversations. On Android, pick GIF from the bottom of the screen by tapping the emoji button.
Status
App status updates are more than just text. Contacts may now exchange photos, GIFs, and movies that will vanish after 24 hours.
To begin, you'll want to limit who sees your status update. Open WhatsApp and select Privacy from the bottom tray's Status button. You'll be able to choose between all of your contacts, all of your contacts save for a few select folks, and just contacts that you handpick.
Now it's time to put the feature to work. Select Status > My Status from the drop-down menu. The photo and text options will appear. Selecting the photo icon allows you to choose an existing photo or video, create new ones, or publish a gif from Giphy by tapping the GIF button at the bottom of your photo library. By pressing on the text and palette choices at the top of the page, you may cycle among color backdrops and fonts while working with text. When you're finished, simply hit the send icon, and your status will be sent to everyone you choose.
Send Perfect Pictures
WhatsApp has improved its picture capabilities. When you get four or more photographs or videos from the same person in a succession, they'll be grouped together in a tile-display album within the message. You may get a full-screen version of each image or video by tapping it.
Take Cool Picture
Filters, let's face it, make for better photographs, and you can apply filters to your photos, GIFs, and videos directly in a WhatsApp message. Simply press the camera icon to choose an image from your gallery or snap a new one, then swipe up to choose from five different effects (pop, black and white, cool, chrome, and film). Text, stickers, emoji, and your own scribbles may all be added to your photographs and movies.
Photo Choose
You can take care of a sequence of images you've gotten in one fell swoop, whether you like them or not. If you've received many images, tap and hold them to be provided with the option of forwarding or deleting them all.
Two-Step Verification
If you're concerned about security, Two-Step Verification is required. If you want it on WhatsApp, you'll have to enter a six-digit password every time you use the service, but the hassle is well worth the security. Go to Settings > Account > Two-Step Verification > Enable to enable it, and you'll be prompted to establish a passcode. If you're prompted, enter your email address as well, so you may turn off two-step verification if you forget your passcode.
Reply Soon
Sure, you can enter in the text box like everyone else, but there's another option for responding to a message. Simply swipe right and begin typing your response straight away.
Message Delete
There are some things in life that you can't take back. In WhatsApp, though, you may erase a message. Tap and hold it, then choose Delete, then Delete for Everyone. It's worth noting that you may only be saved for seven minutes after sending a message, and both you and the recipient must have the most recent version of WhatsApp installed.
