How to Connect Your PS5 DualSense Controller to Your PC

Not merely because of its processing power and graphics capabilities, the PlayStation 5 is amazing. The DualSense is a significant step forward for Sony controllers, with a fantastic feel and a slew of additional functions. You may now use it to play PC games due to a Steam update.

The PC compatibility of the DualSense isn't great. Many features, including as haptic feedback and adjustable triggers, are not compatible with PC games. Nonetheless, the DualSense controller is a fantastic-feeling gamepad that makes Cyberpunk 2077 and other PC games a breeze to play.

Unfortunately, Steam is the only easy and straightforward option to utilize the DualSense on your PC right now. You're confined to Steam games without a sophisticated input wrapper application like DS4Windows for the DualShock 4. If that isn't an issue, continue reading to discover how to connect your DualSense controller to your computer.

Get the Steam Beta Client

First, instead of using the usual Steam client, you should use the Steam beta client. The default client can configure basic DualSense inputs, but it takes time and isn't as smooth as the beta client's new compatibility capability. So that's how you get your hands on the Steam beta client.

  1. Go to the "Settings" option in Steam, which can be found under the Steam drop-down menu in the top-left corner of the screen.
  2. Click "Account" if it isn't already selected.
  3. Click "Change..." under Beta Participation.
  4. Select "Steam Beta Update."
  5. Click "OK."
  6. Restart Steam.

You'll be utilizing the beta client whenever Steam reopens. There aren't many differences between it and the normal client, but it does include one significant new feature: DualSense compatibility.

Connect the Dual Sense Controller to Your Computer

Now you must connect the Dual Sense to your computer through Bluetooth. It's an easy procedure (provided your PC has Bluetooth; if it doesn't, a low-cost USB Bluetooth adaptor is a good idea).

  1. In the lower-right corner of the screen, open the system tray (the upward-pointing arrow to the left of the time).
  2. Double-click the Bluetooth icon.
  3. Click "Add Bluetooth or Other Device."
  4. Click "Bluetooth."
  5. Press and hold the PlayStation and Share buttons (the PlayStation logo and the little button to the left of the trackpad with the |/ symbol) until the lights flash blue to put the Dual Sense into pairing mode.
  6. Select "Wireless Controller."

The Dual Sense is now connected to your computer. Of course, you may use a USB cable to connect the controller to your computer.

Set the DualSense Controller to its default settings

You've got the Steam beta client on your computer. You've used Bluetooth or a cable connection to connect the DualSense to Steam. It's now time to set them up to function together.

  1. Go into the "Settings" menu in Steam.
  2. Click "Controller."
  3. Click "General Controller Settings."
  4. In the Big Picture window that appears, check the "PlayStation Configuration Support" box.

"PlayStation 5 Controller: PlayStation 5 Controller" should appear in the Detected Controllers list if everything is operating properly. This indicates that the DualSense has been connected, and Steam games will recognize the controller as a valid input device. You may put this to the test by navigating Steam's Big Picture mode with the controller.

By clicking the PlayStation button to open the in-game controller menu while in Big Picture mode, you may adjust the DualSense' s controls. This allows you to customize the inputs for each game you play.
